Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently completed a 12-day nationwide operation targeting illegal immigrants with criminal convictions related to drug trafficking or drug possession. According to ICE, over 200 individuals were arrested in various cities, including Boston, Seattle, and Washington D.C.
Acting ICE Director P.J. Lechleitner highlighted the severity of the drugs involved, such as cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and synthetic drugs. Of those arrested, 36 have already been deported, with the rest expected to be removed from the country soon.
Lechleitner emphasized the importance of focusing on smart and effective immigration enforcement to protect public safety and uphold immigration laws. He noted that nearly 420 non-citizens were identified in the operation, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend those who have not yet been captured.
The operation targeted individuals from various countries, including Mexico, El Salvador, and India, who were convicted of drug-related offenses. Lechleitner stated that ICE's mission is to protect the American public by detaining and removing individuals who contribute to the drug crisis.
ERO Deputy Executive Associate Director Russ Hott praised the operation, stating that it reflects the tireless efforts of ICE officers to promote public safety, combat drug trafficking, and disrupt criminal enterprises involved in the distribution of dangerous drugs like fentanyl.
Overall, the operation aimed to address the threats posed by individuals involved in drug trafficking and enhance the safety of communities across the country. ICE continues to prioritize the removal of non-citizens who pose a risk to public safety through criminal activities.
